Sagesse de foule

Sainte-Catherine Street West, in front of Place des Arts

Open in google map
From November 27 to March 8, 2026
A luminous playground

Inspired by James Surowiecki’s theory, according to which collective intelligence surpasses that of the individual and in turn nourishes each participant, this interactive installation allows the public to warm up while testing the responsiveness and natural organization that emerges among crowds in public spaces. Covering a gigantic playground, Sagesse de foule consists of sensitive towers that act at different times as pointers to indicate where the public should stand, with their beams creating a sweeping light display.

About Ottomata

Ottomata is an experiential design studio specialized in the conception of interactive installations and immersive journeys without the need for wearable tech.

Nowadays, we often hear the word immersion being used in our field and it is often associated with the world of virtual reality. At Ottomata, we try to get away from devices like these; we blend our technologies within a public space, producing collaborative and collective experiences for our audiences.

By combining architectural mapping, laser projectors, holographic systems and motion tracking technologies, we create interactive installations in which the individual, and their unique actions, are at the center. Collective participation pushes the experience even further, and can ultimately, bring everyone back to the present moment.
